GRADING PHILOSOPHYThe EDGE grading philosophy is unique in that it seeks to motivate students to perform based on intrinsic motivation rather than an extrinsic letter grade. Research shows that when a teacher places a letter grade on an assignment, actual learning ends.
Please read the article Focusing on Mastery Over Marks. We are asking more of our students in their learning, and recognize that mastery is each student’s goal. |
In EDGE, we have created a system of feedback based on a student’s individual growth in relation to their achievement. We never want students to be satisfied with where they are, and rather develop a growth mindset to achieve their capabilities. This system allows students to enhance their products, work, and learning, striving to create professional products that are impressive to an audience, and for students to gain mastery of their content rather than a solution to earn a grade. EDGE teachers focusing on evaluating grades based on student growth and feedback. The grading system takes into consideration the development of transferable skills, interim and summative assessments, professionalism and content knowledge.
|
Our goal is to change a student’s perspective to learn for their own attainment and motivation, understanding they will be better prepared to succeed in the college major of their choice and eventually their profession.
|
EDGE teachers know that learning does not end because of a semester or ending date. If students are not satisfied with a letter grade, they are given two weeks to demonstrate growth, improve their letter grade, if they go through a feedback review with their mentor/teacher.

INFINITE CAMPUS is the grading system for Legend High School. Parents may track the letter grade utilizing their portal system. Parents and students will be provided a progress grade every 8 weeks of the semester.
|
Grades in Infinite Campus will be broken into three categories. + Interim + Summative + Transferable Learning Growth |

CANVAS is the learning management system incorporated throughout Legend High School and used at several universities. Details on assignments and project expectations and deadlines are located in Canvas for each content area We are asking you to log in to Canvas with your student using their student log-in. Please sit down and have a conversation with your student. They should walk you through the system for each of their courses and show you the feedback systems in place from each of their mentor/teachers.

QUESTIONS FOR PARENTS TO ASK THEIR STUDENT
- How have you used both peer and mentor feedback to revise your work?
- If you are not satisfied with your grade, have you met with your mentors to see how you might continue to improve?
- How are you “owning your learning” i.e. going above and beyond in projects and tasks, making meaningful connections between content areas and your own interests and passions, co-creating the education you wish to have, etc.?
